Summary

A new experimental apparatus has been designed and built for the measurement of phase equilibria at cryogenic temperatures, down to liquid nitrogen temperature. The originality of this apparatus consists of a new sampling system. The equilibrium cell is equipped with 4 small cells, which allow trapping a fixed-volume of a fluid phase at equilibrium with a solid phase (or a second fluid phase). After the emptying and the cleaning of the equilibrium cell, the trapped samples are analyzed at ambient temperature thanks to a Valco valve (6 ports 2 positions), which allows realizing several gas-chromatographic analyses for each sample.
The apparatus is used for investigating the low-temperature phase equilibria of the ethane+benzene system. SLE and SLVE measurements are presented in this work and the results are in good agreement with respect to the available literature data.
