A new heat transformer operating by "reverse rectification" for upgrading waste heat.

Summary

A new type of absorption heat pump is proposed, in which a rectification column (fractional distillation column) and a "reverse-rectification" column are combined. The two components of a working pair are separated in the first column and re-mixed in the second. This new absorption heat pump can operate as a type I, a type II or a refrigerator. The paper presents a heat transformer operating with the principle of reverse-rectification and experimental results obtained with a laboratory scale reverse-rectification column working with the mixture: water-ethylene glycol, under atmospheric pressure.
