A review of pool boiling from inclined and downward-facing flat surface.

Author(s) : GENK M. S. el-

Summary

Results on the effects of inclination angle; liquid subcooling; properties of boiling liquid and wall material; and wall thickness (in quenching experiments) on heat transfer in various pool boiling regimes are presented and discussed. Available heat transfer correlations are reported and compared. Studies of film and transition boiling have been restricted to small surfaces and effect of inclination on the latter has not been adequately addressed. Maximum and minimum film boiling heat flux correlations are for near atmospheric pressure. Mechanisms contributing to the increase in nucleate boiling heat flux with decreased inclination at low wall superheat are described ans discussed.
