A VISCOSITY MODEL FOR MULTI-ELECTROLYTE SOLUTIONS.

Author(s) : WIMBY M., LIU Y., BERNTSSON T.

Summary

ONE WAY TO ENHANCE THE APPLICABILITY OF WATER-LITHIUM BROMIDE ABSORPTION HEAT PUMPS IS THE SUPPRESSION OF CRYSTALLIZATION BY ADDITION OF OTHER ELECTROLYTES TO THE WORKING FLUID. A MODEL DESCRIBING THE VISCOSITY OF MULTI-ELECTROLYTE SOLUTIONS IS PRESENTED. THE EQUATION IS A COMBINATION OF THE EYRING EQUATION, WHICH RELATES VISCOSITY TO THE HEAT OF MIXING OF THE SOLUTION, AND A FREE VOLUME MODEL THAT INCORPORATES THE NON-ARRHENIUS TEMPERATURE DEPENDENCE THAT IS COMMON IN CONCENTRATED ELECTROLYTE SOLUTIONS. THE METHOD IS DEMONSTRATED ON THE SYSTEM WATER-LITHIUM BROMIDE-LITHIUM CHLORIDE.
