OPEN-CYCLE ABSORPTION HEAT PUMPS FOR LOW GRADE HEAT UTILIZATION.

Summary

THIS PAPER FOCUSES ON THE THEORETICAL ANALYSIS OF THE PERFORMANCE OF A TWO-STAGE ABSORPTION HEAT PUMP, OPERATING WITH AN OPEN-CYCLE DESORBER. THE HEAT PUMP IS INTENDED TO UPGRADE LOW-TEMPERATURE WASTE HEAT TO USABLE TEMPERATURES. THE WASTE HEAT IS TYPICALLY AVAILABLE AS HOT WATER AT 323 TO 343 K (50 TO 70 DEG C), AND IT IS USED TO ACTUATE THE DESORBER OF THE HEAT PUMP. AT THESE RELATIVELY LOW TEMPERATURE LEVELS, IT BECOMES NECESSARY TO HAVE A SINK OF LOW REFRIGERANT VAPOR PRESSURE IN ORDER TO ACCOMPLISH A LARGE TEMPERATURE BOOST. AN OPEN-TYPE DESORBER PROVIDES THIS SINK WHEN THE WORKING FLUIDS ARE WATER-LITHIUM BROMIDE OR WATER-LITHIUM CHLORIDE SOLUTIONS.
