Absorption cooling: demonstration and application.

Author(s) : PLZAK B.

Summary

The present absorption cooling market in North America is split between a segment that uses absorption for its intrinsic capability to utilize streams of waste heat, and one which competes directly with electric driven chillers for market share. The first market segment is steady and relatively healthy. Growth of this market segment requires development of products that can utilize lower heat input, and higher heat sink temperatures. These new products which capitalize on the unique capabilities of absorption processes, provide great promise. The second market is not nearly as stable or healthy, and is greatly affected by energy costs and regulation changes, both of which are difficult to predict and impossible to control. But even with favorable conditions, growth will not occur unless absorption products continue to be developed. The necessary competitiveness can only be maintained by the effective and continuous application of new technology.
