Summary

SUGGESTS AMMONIA AS A SUITABLE REFRIGERANT FOR USE WITH ACTIVATED CARBON BECAUSE OF BOTH ITS THERMOPHYSICAL PROPERTIES AND ITS CHEMICAL ABILITY. PRESENTS MEASURED ADSORPTION DATA FOR AMMONIA WITH A RANGE OF CONVENTIONAL ACTIVATED CARBONS, A HIGHLY ACTIVATED CARBON POWDER, AN EXTRUDED CARBON, A RANGE OF CARBON TEXTILES AND ZEOLITE 13X. USES THIS DATA AS A BASE TO CALCULATE VARIOUS CYCLE COPS. THESE ARE FOR SIMPLE CYCLES, MULTIPLE BED CASCADED CYCLE NNGY FINDS THE LATTER CAN ACHIEVE COPS ABOVE 2. STATES CASCADED CYCLES CAN ACHIEVE COPS IN EXCESS OF 1.5 AT MUCH LOWER GENERATING TEMPERATURES EVEN WHEN ALLOWING FOR REALISTIC TEMPERATURE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN BEDS.
