THE FUTURE DEMANDS FOR REEFER-CONTAINER SHIPMENTS AND THE TRAN SPORT OF REFRIGERATED BULK CARGOES IN CONVENTIONAL REEFER SHIPS ARE DERIVED FROM AN OVERVIEW SHOWING THE DISTRIBUTION OF REFRIGERATED CARGOES IN THE WORLD AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF CITRUS FRUIT AND BANANA CONSUMPTION IN EUROPE. THE STRUCTURE OF THE PRESENT WORLD REEFER FLEET AND CURRENT DEVELOPMENTS IN SHIPBUILDING AND REFRIGERATION TECHNOLOGY MAY RESULT IN AN INCREASED NEED FOR NEW REEFER VESSELS IN 1987. THE DEVELOPMENT OF REEFER VESSEL GENERATIONS IN THE GERMAN MERCHANT FLEET FROM 1950 TO 1985 IS SUMMARIZED IN A TABLE.
