Air as a refrigerant for the 21st century.

Summary

The paper discusses air-cycle refrigeration as an alternative. The refrigeration cycles that use air appear to use more energy than comparable vapour compression cycles. The problems of energy consumption must be solved. The paper mainly discusses the application of air cycles in aerospace and surface transportation applications. Other areas being investigated include automobiles, buildings, and food freezing and preserving.
