A survey was done of current ammonia applications in The Netherlands. Risk assessment studies were also carried out. The results are discussed in the paper. New application fields like supermarket refrigeration and room air conditioning are also dealt with. Technical as well as safety and regulatory aspects are considered, along with the latest findings in this area.
