Author(s) : COLLIN M.

Summary

AT ARLOV (SWEDEN) SUGAR REFINERY IT WAS DECIDED TO RECOVER WASTE HEAT IN THE PROCESS AND TO DELIVER HEAT TO MALMOE TOWN BY MEANS OF A TURBINE DRIVEN HEAT PUMP. RECOVERED HEAT IS IN THE FORM OF SATURATING STEAM AT 333 K (60 DEG C). THE HEAT PUMP USES ABOUT 10 MW OF STEAM. THE HEAT PUMP CONDENSER AND THE TURBINE CONDENSER ARE IN SERIES. THIS PROVIDES TEMPERATURES REACHING 393 K (120 DEG C). A GENERATOR IS LOCATED WITH THE COMPRESSOR ON THE DRIVING SHAFT OF THE TURBINE IN ORDER TO PROVIDE A WORK OF THE TURBINE SYNCHRONOUS TO THE ELECTRIC NETWORK AT A CONSTANT RPM.
