WASTE HEAT RECOVERY BY STEAM CONDENSATION IN LARGE HEAT PUMPS.

POMPE A CHALEUR DE GRANDE DIMENSION : RECUPERATION PAR CONDENSATION DE VAPEUR.

Author(s) : AUBLET R.

Summary

STEAM BEING SATURATED AT 338 K (65 DEG C) HAS PERMITTED THE DESIGN AND REALISATION OF A BIG HEAT PUMP (11,640 KILOW), IN A SUGAR REFINERY IN SWEDEN. PURPOSE OF THE HEAT RECOVERY, BY STEAM CONDENSATION, WAS TO HEAT WATER FOR DISTRICT HEATING APPLICATION. THE HEAT PUMP, USING R12, IS CONSTITUTED BY A CENTRIFUGAL COMPRESSOR DRIVEN BY A STEAM TURBINE, A CONDENSER/SUBCOOLER, A LIQUID SEPARATOR AND TWO EVAPORATORS WORKING IN PARALLEL. EVAPORATORS ARE OF RECIRCULATION TYPE ; THIS BY THE USE OF EJECTORS WHICH, USING COMPRESSOR DISCHARGE/SUCTION PRESSURE DIFFERENCE AS ENERGY, INCREASE REFRIGERANT VELOCITY IN THE EVAPORATOR EXCHANGE TUBES. THE COP IS 10.
