Summary

THE OBJECTIVE OF THE WORK HAS BEEN TO ESTABLISH THE FEASIBILITY OF STORING SUMMER-WARM SURFACE WATER FROM A SHALLOW ARTIFICIAL LAKE IN A NEARBY GROUND WATER RESERVOIR. STORAGE WOULD BE EFFECTED BY A HIGH RATE OF PUMPING OF GROUND WATER DURING THE SUMMER FROM THE GROUND WATER RESERVOIR OUT INTO THE ARTIFICAL LAKE, INDUCTING INFILTRATION OF THE LAKE WATER INTO THE GROUND WATER RESERVOIR, THE TEMPERATURE OF WHICH WOULD THEREBY BE RAISED BY A FEW DEGREES. THE ENERGY SO SUPPLIED COULD THEN BE UTILISED DURING THE WINTER BY A HEAT PUMP AS ITS HEAT SOURCE. THE RESULTS OF THEINVESTIGATION SHOW THAT THE FEASIBILITY OF PRACTICAL APPLICATION OF THE ABOVE-DESCRIBED METHOD OF STORAGE IS PROBABLY GOOD. PAY-OFF TIME FOR A HEAT PUMP PLANT ABSTRACTING HEAT FROM THE STORE HAS BEEN CALCULATED AS ABOUT FOUR YEARS. (SYNOP. SWED. BUILD. RES., SE., N 6, 1986/09, 19.
