Summary
A review of energy sources and usage in Japan, with market trends. New commercial buildings must have better insulation and this law will be extended to housing. There is concern about the increasing use of energy but no other regulative steps have been taken. Carbon dioxide emissions are planned to be limited from year 2000. 95% of the existing 6 million heat pump installations are air-air. There is a large amount of research in progress and 19 heat pump applications are listed. A.R.T.
