Analysis of rock behaviour at low temperature during Brazilian tests with ultrasonic waves.

Author(s) : CÔTÉ H., THIMUS J. F.

Summary

When submitted to low temperatures, individual thermal deformation of rock grains gives a stronger matrix. In saturated conditions, phase change involves ice participation to this improvement. The aim of the paper is the characterisation of mechanical behaviour of frozen saturated rocks with non-destructive techniques. Ultrasonic waves through rock sample give precious information about the cracking process.
