Application of a two-phase ejector as booster compressor in refrigeration systems.

Author(s) : BUTRYMOWICZ D.

Summary

The most important loss in the refrigeration system is caused by the throttling process. One of the most promising solutions to this problem is the application of a two-phase ejector to recovery of the expansion work. The idea is based on the vapour compression refrigeration device equipped with an ejector and a liquid separator. This ejector operates as a booster compressor in the refrigeration system. The model of combined compression-ejector refrigeration cycle is presented in the paper. This model enables calculation of the flow ratio of sucked vapour and motive liquid as well as increase of COP due to the application of the two-phase ejector. The results of numerical calculations for refrigerants R134a and R290 are presented, showing potential for the significant improvement of the COP in the range of 17 to 66%.
