Summary

IT IS NECESSARY TO HEAT THE CARGO SPACE IN INSULATED VEHICLES WHEN TRANSPORTING COLD-SENSITIVE PRODUCTS IN LOW AMBIENT TEMPERATURES. TESTS WERE CONDUCTED IN ORDER TO ASSESS IF A HEAT PUMP COULD PROVIDE BETTER SAVINGS IN ENERGY THAN AN ELECTRICAL HEATING SYSTEM. THE TEST RESULTS SHOWED THAT THE HEAT PUMP WAS MORE ECONOMIC BUT THERE WERE CERTAIN LIMITATIONS WHICH WILL REQUIRE FURTHER INVESTIGATION.
