Summary

To improve primary alternatives search while avoiding omissions, the concept of distance and the similarity assessment method in statistics were introduced into the research on substitutes for CFCs and HCFCs as working fluids in energy conversion systems. In this work, the critical pressure Pc, the critical temperature Tc and the normal boiling temperature Tb were selected as the characteristic parameters to judge the similarities of various substitutes for R22, R12, R11, R13, and R114, respectively. The results on possible alternatives given by this work not only involve all of the substitutes already proposed in references, but also indicate some new ones of ether. It is also observed that there are strong resemblances existed among the isometric compounds and between R12 and R22.
