Final production year left a dribble of CFCs.

Type of article: Article

Summary

The combined total of last year's CFC output is about 10% of the 720 million lb that was the 1986 baseline for production cuts under the Montréal protocol, with 5 million lb of R11 and 60 million lb of R12. World production of R134a, a substitute for R12, reached 50,000 metric tons in 1994, (the most recent year for which data are available). This is about double the 1993 output of 26,000 tons. Most of this will be absorbed by the auto air conditioning sector. World production through 1994 of various CFCs and HCFC-22, expressed in metric tons, is shown in the charts.
