Application of the configuration coefficient with stepwise temperature control.

Author(s) : MEFFERT

Summary

The configuration coefficient, which relates air to product temperature in occupied refrigerated holds, has been originally defined for continuous modulating refrigeration power control on air delivery temperature. With little modification it can also be applied with stepwise refrigeration power control on air return temperature in quasi steady state with continuous air circulation. Intermittent control of the air circulation needs a much more complicated approach, taking account of transient heat and air flow processes in the occupied hold. The maximum product temperature is affected by oscillations of the air delivery temperature only with heating-cooling cycles. The minimum product temperature depends on the control step of refrigeration power and air circulation. The product temperature range can be presented in terms of increments for air, package and product layer. Related to the allowed product temperature limits it defines air circulation and refrigeration power control step.
