THIS PAPER EXAMINES A METHOD FOR CALCULATING THE REQUIRED REFRIGERATING CAPACITY OF A MECHANICALLY REFRIGERATED RAIL WAGON. BASED ON LITERATURE, THE A. HAS DERIVED A NEW FORMULA FOR CALCULATING THIS CAPACITY UNDER UNSTABLE CONDITIONS. THE FORMULAE FOR CALCULATING HEAT LOSS, QUANTITY AND TIME OF AIR EXCHANGE RATES THROUGH AN OPEN DOOR IN A REFRIGERATED WAGON ARE RECOMMENDED AND COMPARED WITH COMMONLY USED FORMULAE.
