Summary

An LNG plant in Australia has been increased in capacity from 6.9 to 7.5 million tonnes per year by the removal of bottlenecks. Sulfinol CO2 absorber columns were subject to foaming which reduced throughput. Replacement of the absorber trays by structured packing eliminated the problem. The main refrigerant compressors have been upgraded by uprating their gas-turbine drivers. Installation of two-vane first stage nozzles, special combustion chamber liners and other modifications incrased the turbine firing temperature by 20 deg C giving 8% more power. The resultant LNG output is increased by an additional 10 LNG cargoes per year. D.W.H.
