Summary
The world seaweed industry produces more than 6 millions tonnes a year, two-thirds for food and a third for industrial use, and is conservatively valued at USD 1.5 billion annually. More than 80% of commercial seaweed production is from Asia, particularly Japan, China, Korea, the Philippines and Thailand, while most seaweed processing occurs in Europe and the USA.
