Summary

The greenhouse whitefly (Trialeurodes vaporariorum) is a common pest in many glasshouse cultures. However, Bemisia tabaci was the species more commonly encountered, especially on glasshouse tomato and cucumber cultures in southern France. This paper offers the key descriptive elements and criteria for differentiation between the two whitefly species; it also reviews the types of crop damage they cause and the various available protection strategies.
