Summary

TESTS HAVE BEEN CARRIED OUT WITH GOLDEN DELICIOUS, STAYMAN AND GRANNY SMITH APPLES IN ORDER TO ASSESS THE PERIOD OF MATURATION AND THE USE OF VARIOUS TREATMENTS TO REDUCE BITTER PIT. CALCIUM CHLORIDE SPRAYS USED DURING THE SPRING-SUMMER PERIOD GIVE GOOD RESULTS AND POST-HARVEST DIPS IN THIS SOLUTION ARE EQUALLY EFFECTIVE. SPRAYING WITH MONOCALCIUM PHOSPHATE IS ALSO AN EFFECTIVE TREATMENT. THE UPTAKE OF CALCIUM IN THE FRUIT VARIES CONSIDERABLY.
