Summary
Studies were carried out during 1994-99 in the Netherlands to investigate factors influencing brown core in Conférence pears. Brown core occurred within 6 weeks, followed by hollowness. Brown and hollow core increased after late harvesting, poor fruit setting, early controlled atmosphere and low losses of liquid.
