Summary

In nature, energy is cascaded down potential gradients. In the present paper, the authors outline the high driving potential design method, and introduce a "design matrix" from which initial estimates of plant configuration, coil sizes, first cost, operating cost and psychrometric performance characteristics can be made for any building type in any climatic region. The matrix allows rapid initial design estimates covering seven classes of building in any of seven climatic regions. The concept is illustrated by comparing coil selections for a "standard" office building located in Adelaide and in Bangkok.
