Calculation of thermodynamic and thermophysical properties of the binary mixture propane/isobutane.

Author(s) : VOLLMER D., FINDEISEN E.

Summary

A modified Redlich-Kwong-Soave equation of state fitted on experimental vapour-liquid equilibrium data was used for the calculating of the thermodynamic properties. The equations used and some thermodynamic charts are presented in the paper. The authors found that simple thermodynamic models are applicable to the mixture. Except for its flammability, a 50-50% mixture is an acceptable substitute for R12; only minor changes are necessary in an R22 refrigeration circuit. Some advantages regarding the thermodynamic and thermophysical properties of the mixture may provide higher energy efficiency than R12.
