Summary
The thermoacoustic engine has been an attractive choice of compressor to drive a pulse tube cooler for the purpose of long lifetime and high reliability. One of the obstacles for the practical small-scale cryogenic applications is the long resonance tube required to control the frequency. Another problem is the large power dissipation inside such a tube, which reduces the system overall efficiency. Recently, spring-mass resonator has been experimentally proved to be able to replace the resonance tube. The article simulates such kind of system based on linear thermoacoustic theory. Some interesting characteristics of the system are shown. Moreover, a simple method of calculating the oscillation frequency is introduced.
