Chemical heat pump using metal chloride-woven carbon fibers with ammonia.

Summary

A dual purpose chemical heat-pump is based on the reversible solid-gas reaction including manganese chloride and ammonia. In order to actually improve the mass and thermal transfer, carbon or graphite fibers are incorporated into the metal chloride as a binder. The binder ratio carbon/(carbon + manganese chloride) is about 25%. Data on cooling capacity are given. Owing to the high porosity and permeability of the mixture and the high thermal conductivity of the graphite fibers, the energy efficiency is close to 100% and the system power for cooling and heating reaches a very high value. So as to make improvement to the reactor filling with the active material, the utilization of impregnated carbon fibers textiles in place of free carbon fibers will be a good useful solution.
