CHLOROFLUOROCARBONS AND POLYURETHANES.
Author(s) : JEFFS G. M. F.
Type of article: Periodical article
Summary
THE AUTHOR EXPLAINS THE USE OF CFCS AND THEIR EFFECT ON THE OZONE LAYER. THE USE OF R11 PARTICULARLY AS A FOAMING AGENT FOR POLYURETHANE AND POLYSTYRENE PRODUCTION IS IMPORTANT BECAUSE ITS LOW CONDUCTIVITY INCREASES THE EFFECTIVE INSULATION PROPERTIES OF THE CLOSED-CELL PRODUCT. A REPLACEMENT FLUID IS BEING SOUGHT. CFCS 123 AND 141B ARE POSSIBLE ALTERNATIVES. YEARS OF TOXICITY TESTING ARE ESSENTIAL HOWEVER BEFORE THEY CAN BE USED COMMERCIALLY. D.W.H.
