Summary

The article compares the characteristics of natural refrigerants: air, water, hydrocarbons, carbon dioxide and ammonia that are used in refrigeration techniques. The assessment of energy efficiency of different circuits of refrigerating plants with CO2 in the lower branch and ammonia in the upper branch of a two-stage ammonia plant is presented. Ammonia plants with boiling CO2 as a pseudo coolant are also considered. For the version of plants with two evaporating temperatures, a comparison of the cascade (CO2-ammonia) circuit with a cascade-compound circuit proposed by the authors is given.
