Summary

Low ambient temperature provides a unique opportunity for CO2 booster rack system to achieve a better energy efficiency due to its minimal condensing temperature limit can be much lower than HFC refrigerants. In this paper, Annual Energy Cost analysis is performed using bin hour approach to compare a R448A rack and a CO2 booster rack. Both dry gas cooler and adiabatic gas cooler cases for a CO2 booster rack are compared with a traditional R448A rack system at two different locations selected to represent different climate conditions. The results show that with adiabatic gas cooler, CO2 booster rack may have a lower Annual Energy Cost than that of a R448A rack for the same application.
