Performance evaluation of a two-stage carbon dioxide compressor.

Summary

This paper provides the performance of a two-stage carbon dioxide compressor. Measurements were taken of the temperatures, pressures, mass flow rate, the RPM and the power consumption of the compressor and the cooling capacity of the evaporator. The characteristic performance values have been calculated through an approached gas cooler outlet temperature and an isenthalpic expansion. The calculated values are the volumetric efficiency, the compressor efficiency, the COP and the capacity. Based on these measurements, the performance of the compressor is determined. The volumetric efficiency ranged between 0.41 and 0.84 and the compressor efficiency was as large as 0.58. In order to better characterize the compressor and to provide compressor performance, compressor maps were provided differently from the conventional compressor performance maps.
