COLD CHAINS IN ECONOMIC PERSPECTIVE. FUTURE SUPPLY AND DEMAND OF COLD CHAIN SERVICES.

Summary

IN WESTERN COUNTRIES, THE COLD CHAIN OFFERS SERVICES WHICH WILL PROBABLY BECOME MORE AND MORE INDISPENSABLE THAN IS FORESEEN BECAUSE OF THE CONTINUOUS GROWTH -ALTHOUGH SMALL -OF THE CONSUMPTION OF FOODSTUFFS: BETWEEN 1 AND 2% TILL 2000. IT CAN BE ASSUMED THAT THE DEMAND FOR FRESH PRODUCE AND FROZEN FOOD WILL INCREASE RELATIVELY MORE THAN THE DEMAND FOR OTHER FOODSTUFFS. THE LOGISTICS OF REFRIGERATED STORAGE AND TRANSPORT WILL IMPROVE THE EFFICIENCY AND, THUS COMPETITION. NEVERTHELESS, THE FURTHER DEMAND FOR SERVICES OF THE COLD CHAIN IS DIFFICULT TO ESTIMATE.
