Summary

LOWERING THE TEMPERATURE APPEARED TO LEAD TO DECREASING THE PHOSPHOLIPID MOLECULE AREA AND TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF THERMOELASTIC EFFECTS IN PHOSPHOLIPID VESICLE MEMBRANES. THE THERMOELASTIC EFFECTS HAVE BEEN SUGGESTED TO CAUSE COLD SHOCK IN PHOSPHOLIPID VESICLES AND TO PLAY AN IMPORTANT ROLE IN THE THERMOREGULATION OF THE CELL ACTIVITY AND IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF CELLULAR CRYOINJURY.
