Summary
A new field of application for refrigeration (during residue treatment in water distribution plants) is presented. The principles of the cold treatment are outlined and the freezing and thawing devices for the residues are described in order to dehydrate and compact them. The results of the first industrial experiment introducing a cylinder freezing device and a refrigerating plant for the continuous freeze-thawing in thin layers of the residues in the water distribution plant of Saratov (Russia) are outlined.
