Summary

The film tested, the Pebaw MV 3,000 film, is a thermoplastic elastomer. Its permeability has been evaluated through changes in the chemical consitution of the carrier gas passing through a permeability module O2 cell; a hot wire detector measured the oxygen and the coarbon dioxide while a flame ionization detector measured the ehtylene. Both the Pebax MV 3,000 permeability and selectivity coefficients proved to be far more significant thant those of other synthetic films tested. The film's permeability for oxygen and carbon dioxide is all the more significant when the percentage of relative humidity is high. The results show that this type of film would be suitable for the wrapping, in a modified atmosphere, of fresh vegetable products, and more particularly for the packing of fruits and vegetables with a high respiratory intensity.
