Comparison between the Lorentz, mixture and pure refrigerant cycles and application to the wet compression-resorption heat pump.

Summary

The utility of the T-h diagrams when working with compression-resorption heat pumps has been outlined. The authors have shown that the external conditions should always be taken into account, because the nonlinearity of the mixture temperature course can lead to unfeasible temperature profiles in the heat exchangers. Most of the time, LMTD calculations cannot be applied. The temperature levels should be chosen with care when comparing the hybrid wet compression and pure refrigerant cycles. No general conclusion can be drawn concerning the relative efficiencies of these cycles and the utility of internal heat exchange. They both depend on the chosen mixture, on its overall concentration and temperature levels and on the external conditions.
