Thermodynamic efficiency of several non-azeotropic mixtures in the wet compression/resorption heat pump cycle.

Summary

The compression/resorption heat pump cycle using a non-azeotropic mixture is promising when the heat sink and heat source temperatures are not constant and when a high temperature lift must be achieved. These advantages can be realized only if the appropriate mixture with the optimal component's concentration is used. The prospects of using any working media must be based on thermodynamic efficiency, heat transfer, design and environmental aspects. Based on these considerations, four pairs of fluorocarbon mixtures, two pairs of normal paraffins, one pair of mineral refrigerants and two ternary blends have been studied. No one of these mixtures appears to be absolutely the best with respect to the COP, so that the proper choice of a mixture always depends on the particular application.
