Summary

For operating temperatures close to the freezing point the heat transfer coefficients for ice slurry mixtures are very promising. The most popular methods for the production of ice slurry at the moment are the 'scraped surface evaporator' and the 'vacuum freeze evaporator'. Fluidised bed evaporators form an alternative production method with the potential for lower investment levels. In this paper a comparison is made between these three methods for ice slurry production. Heat transfer, energy and economic performances for the different systems are quantified.
