Comparison of practical performance between CO2 and R22 reversible heat pumps for residential use.

Author(s) : AARLIEN R., FRIVIK P. E.

Summary

The paper presents results from an experimental investigation on residential heat pumps. A CO2 prototype unit is compared to a conventional R22 unit. The overall system efficiency of the CO2 system in terms of COP is competitive to that of the R22 system in both modes of operation. There is room for improvement in the whole system. The different components of the circuits tested are described, with their drawbacks. Some of the important features to be adressed in designing CO2 systems are discussed.
