Summary

The effects of packing (plastic wrap or ceramic films with thickness of 20 µm (CE 20), 40 µm (CE40) or 80 µm (CE 80) and storage temperature (3 or 10 °C) on the storage of melons were investigated. Losses in fresh weight, evolution of CO2, ethylene content, acetaldehyde, total soluble sugars, soluble solids and titratable acidity, are investigated. The best storage treatment was packing in 40 µm-thick ceramic film which seemed to reduce chilling injury (which occurred at 3 °C).
