Summary

THE COMPRESSION RATIO IS LARGELY DETERMINED BY THE CHOICE OF COMPRESSOR. THE CONDENSING TEMPERATURE TCO IS LARGELY DETERMINED BY THE REQUIRED TEMEPERATURE OF THE HEAT TO BE DELIVERED. THIS MEANS THAT FOR A GIVEN WORKING FLUID, THE THEORETICAL RANKINE (COP)R AND THE GROSS TEMPERATURE LIFT (DT) ARE DETERMINED AUTOMATICALLY. THE ONLY WAY THAT THE VALUES OF (CO P)R AND (DT) CAN BE VARIED IS TO CHOOSE ANOTHER WORKING FLUID. OF THE TWENTY-ONE WORKING FLUIDS FOR WHICH COMPREHENSIVE THERMODYNAMIC DATA ARE AVAILABLE, ONLY TEN HAVE CRITICAL TEMPERATURES HIGH ENOUGH TO BE CONSIDERED FOR USE IN HEAT PUMP SYSTEMS WITH A CONDENSING TEMPERATURE OF 393 K (120 DEG C) AND ONLY FIVE CAN BE CONSIDERED FOR A CONDENSING TEMPERATURE OF 433 K (160 DEG C).
