Competition hots up for LNG builders.
Type of article: Periodical article
Summary
As the demand for LNG marine transport increases, old and new shipyards compete for orders. Five 130,000 m3 carriers are being built in France using an invar membrane containment system. New techniques of prefabrication and insulation are reported. Other ships, mainly of the spherical container type are being constructed in Korea and Japan. The high price of these specialist ships may enable US shipyards to compete. D.W.H.
