Component design issues and limitations with 3rd generation HFC, HC and natural refrigerants.

Summary

A computer modelling programme was recently developed to conduct thermodynamic cycle comparisons, as well as component and system level assessments for single-component refrigerants and blends. With the help of the programme, the authors examined the various benefits, as well as key Rankine cycle system and component design issues and limitations, when using a wide range of single-component refrigerants, hydrocarbons, natural refrigerants and blends. In addition, the potential for using small high-speed centrifugal compressors to meet these new requirements is briefly described.
