Computational simulation of turbulent natural convection air cooling of heated blocks mounted on a vertical wall.

Summary

This paper presents a numerical simulation of conjugate, turbulent natural-convection air cooling of three heated sources (electronic components), having an aspect ratio equal to 1, mounted on a vertical adiabatic wall. A three-dimensional, conjugate heat transfer model, and a low-Reynolds number turbulence model were used in this work. The finite-volume method was used to numerically solve the three-dimensional conservation equations of mass, momentum, energy and turbulent kinetic energy, and its dissipation throughout the entire physical domain (solid and fluid). The effects of the Rayleigh number, the thickness of heat sources, and the removal of heat input in one of the sources were investigated.
