Summary

WITH THE REDUCTION OF AVAILABILITY OF OZONE DEPLETING CFCS, AND THE POSSIBLE DELAY IN THE PRODUCTION OF ALTERNATIVES AND MODIFIED SYSTEMS TO USE THEM, A FURTHER POSSIBILITY IS WORTH EXPLORING. NON-AZEOTROPIC BINARY MIXTURES OF REFRIGERANTS WITH LOWER OZONE DEPLETION FACTORS MAY BE USABLE IN PRESENT SYSTEMS. ONE SUCH MIXTURE IS R22/R142B. IF THIS, OR ANY OTHER MIXTURE IS CONSIDERED FOR REPLACING R12, FOR INSTANCE, THE TOTAL PERFORMANCE, COP, SYSTEM PRESSURES, COMPRESSOR CAPACITY, ETC, MUST BE STUDIED. TO ENABLE SUCH A STUDY TO BE CARRIED OUT QUICKLY AND WITHOUT THE NEED FOR LABORATORY TESTS, A COMPUTER SIMULATION HAS BEEN PRODUCED AND TESTED AGAINST LABORATORY RESULTS. D.W.H.
