Control of a freeze-drying process by barometric temperature- and desorption-rate measurements.

Author(s) : WILLEMER H. M.

Summary

The paper presents the barometric temperature measurement as a method to define the temperature of the sublimation front and adjusting this temperature to the desired value by controlling the total pressure. The desorption rate is the second method during freeze-drying to determine the amount of desorbed water and also the amount of water which could still be desorbed during prolonged secondary drying at a given temperature. These methods were demonstrated in a laboratory and in a pilot plant and under production conditions.
