Summary

CONVECTIVE HEAT TRANSFER DISTRIBUTIONS HAVE BEEN MEASURED FOR PLANAR WATER JETS IMPINGING ON A PLATE. THE COOLING EFFECTIVENESS OF 2 NOZZLES, EACH WITH A DIFFERENT DISCHARGE WIDTH, IS COMPARED FOR A RANGE OF IMPINGEMENT VELOCITIES. MEASUREMENTS WERE MADE UNDER TRANSIENT CONDITIONS, AND RESULTS ARE PRESENTED BOTH DURING AND AFTER THE PERIOD FOR BOUNDARY LAYER GROWTH ON AN INITIALLY DRY PLATE. HEAT TRANSFER CORRELATIONS AND DISCUSSIONS OF PERTINENT PARAMETRIC EFFECTS ARE PROVIDED.
